Privacy Policy

The short version

JMT Sanitation LLC ("JMT", "we", "us", "our") runs a local garbage and bulk-pickup service in Emmet County, Michigan. We collect the minimum information we need to quote, schedule, and bill pickups, plus a small amount of aggregate website analytics so we know which pages help people find the right service. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not run advertising on this site.

This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, who processes it on our behalf, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. By using jmtsanitation.com or our services you accept this policy.

Information you give us

Contact form (jmtsanitation.com/contact and inline signup forms). When you submit the form we collect: your name, phone number, email address, service address (street, unit, city, state, zip), the services you're interested in, your preferred tote frequency and pickup day, any free-text message, and any photos you attach. Photos are resized in your browser before upload; we store the resized version, not the original.

If you become a customer. We keep your service address, pickup day, route notes, billing email, and a record of payments we receive from you. Card payments are processed in person or by phone through our third-party payment processor; we do not store full card numbers on our systems.

When you call or email us. We keep a record of the conversation, your contact details, and anything you send us. Phone calls are not recorded.

Information collected automatically

When you visit jmtsanitation.com, we receive the limited information any website receives: the page URL, the page that referred you, your device type, browser, and approximate region inferred from your IP. We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, both of which are cookieless and aggregate; they do not identify individual visitors. We use this data to keep the site fast and find broken pages.

We also fire a small number of internal events such as contact_form_submit when an inquiry is successfully sent. These events include the services you selected and how many photos you attached, but no name, email, or address — just aggregate counts in our analytics dashboard.

How we use information

• To respond to inquiries and get a tote, bag pack, or bulk pickup scheduled.
• To run the route — confirming pickup days, sending route updates, billing, and answering questions.
• To improve the website — figure out which pages are helpful, which are confusing, and where the site is slow.
• To prevent abuse — rate-limit the contact form, flag suspicious submissions, and protect against spam.
• To comply with law (tax records, USDOT requirements, court orders we are legally required to honor).

We do not use your information for ad targeting, profiling that would produce legal or similarly significant effects, or automated decisions made without human review.

Who processes data for us

We use a short list of vendors that are contractually limited to using your data only to deliver their service to us. Each links to their own privacy policy:

• Vercel (USA) — website hosting and cookieless analytics. Privacy policy.
• Supabase (USA, hosted on AWS) — encrypted database of inquiries, customer records, business hours, and reviews. Privacy policy.
• Resend (USA) — transactional email delivery for contact-form inquiries and customer confirmations. Privacy policy.
• Mapbox (USA) — powers the address autocomplete on the signup forms. Mapbox receives the partial address you type, not your identity. Privacy policy.

We may also share information with our accountant, attorney, or insurer when reasonably necessary, and with law enforcement when we are legally required (subpoena, warrant, or comparable order).

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. If JMT Sanitation is ever acquired or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner under the same terms, and we will notify customers in advance.

How long we keep it

• Contact-form inquiries: until you ask us to delete them, or 3 years after your last contact — whichever comes first.
• Customer records and billing: 7 years (Michigan tax and accounting requirement).
• Email logs at Resend: 1 day (their default retention).
• Analytics data: aggregated by Vercel and not tied to individuals.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to:

• Confirm what we have about you.
• Correct anything that's wrong.
• Delete what you sent us (subject to legal record-keeping requirements above).
• Restrict or object to certain uses.
• Receive a copy of what you submitted, in a readable format.
• Unsubscribe from non-essential email at any time.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the same rights described above. Categories of personal information we collect are: identifiers (name, email, phone), commercial information (services requested), internet activity (page-views), geolocation (service address, approximate region), audio/visual (photos you attach), and inferences drawn from the above (your likely pickup day). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" choice to make on this site. You have the right to no retaliation for exercising your rights.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Inquiry data is stored in an encrypted Supabase database with access limited to authorized JMT staff. Resend and Mapbox both transmit over TLS. No method of storage or transmission is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we use industry-standard practices and we will notify affected individuals and the relevant Michigan authorities of any data breach as required by Michigan law.

Cookies

The public site does not set tracking cookies. The admin area (used only by JMT staff) sets a strictly-necessary session cookie via Supabase Auth. Details are on our cookie policy page.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, contact us and we will delete it.

International users

JMT Sanitation operates in Michigan, USA. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country. By using the site you consent to that transfer.

Changes to this policy

When we update this policy we change the "last updated" date at the top. For changes that meaningfully expand how we use your data we will also post a homepage notice for at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
